A Waif and A Dreamer

One Hundred Faces
Face No 73
 A waif.
But she has her black beads and colored hair.
One Hundred Faces
Face No 74
A dreamer.

One of the things I am learning about all these faces is they have stories.
I think it is pretty amazing that with just a face in a very limited space, my imagination and their story comes forth.

This is Sam and Vickie

Sam and Vickie are brother and sister and I took the liberty to paint my version of them.
I think I got the sweetness and brother-sister likeness even though not a likeness to the photo.

Sam and Vickie 1926
I came back from my road trip with treasures.
I went to see my friend and organizing guru.
Yes, we were organizing her stuff as she is in the process of down sizing.
My friend had a gillion framed family portraits and our project was to remove them from frames.
I brought home the frames for the Garden Palace gallery.
She added the family photos to her genealogy records.
But when I saw one that really spoke to me, I took a quick iPhone snap for reference.
This is Sam, my friend's father and Vickie, his sister.
For real.

to see the One Hundred Faces Album.
Way cool!

I'm off for a little road trip tomorrow.
I know you won't miss me.
But the cool thing is, I am taking my One Hundred Faces board,
little Sta-wet paint palette,
a tin of brushes,
and will hope to paint a face or two.

The Heiman's daughter

One Hundred Faces
Face No 66
Probably the Heiman's daughter.
I heard she moved to Newport, NH,
changed her hair,
and never came back home.
One Hundred Faces

She is right here in the scheme of One Hundred Faces
near her parents (assumed).
Can't you see the likeness?

The Heiman's go to Austria

One Hundred Faces
Face No 64
Mr Heiman
Well, I know you are not going to believe this but,
this is the Heiman's.
Yes it is.
You see, on another world wide trip, they went to Austria.
Again, just happen to dine with an artist from the House of Klimt.

Mrs Heiman
Gustav was taken with the couple and suggested they sit for him.
They were thrilled.
He did his magic and they left with yet another likeness "in the eyes of the artist".

Row Six and Seven of One Hundred Faces
I have painted each little square in rows six and seven of One Hundred Faces.
I especially like that Mr and Mrs Heiman show up in these rows.
Who knows where they may go next.

Meet the Heiman's

Meet Mr and Mrs Heiman from the Barlett and Granger area.
(That is close to me here in Central Texas)
He was a photographer and enjoyed a very lucrative business with Mr Schlueter.

They were a very well traveled couple and traveled worldwide.
It so happens, they traveled to Italy where they met a very interesting artist whose given name was Amedeo.

Mr Heiman
Mr Heiman and Mr Modigliani were intrigued with each other mostly because they shared a picture making profession.
They became friends immediately.
Hence, Mr Modigliani persuaded the couple to let him paint a likeness.

They chose to have separate sittings and
of course, were thrilled with the outcome.

Upon there return to Texas learned, they became a part of the One Hundred Faces project.

And that's the whole truth!

A little bride in the dime-zone.

Face No 61
This one is a bit larger.
1.5 x 1.75 inches felt huge after the dime-zone bride.
I'm not wild about the texture on her face but it is where it is.

ps. somehow I skipped these two and so I'm just slipping them in with a "scheduled" posting.

Another Pillow Girl

12 x 24

I switched from the tiny faces to a larger format.
It felt good.
She was painted for a special little girl for a special occasion.
I gave it the title Playing because I could imagine this duo in all sorts of fun and games.

Crop of Playing
You might remember her from my "Pillow Girls" series.

I don't hide cookies in my studio.

These two are in the dime-zone.

No 54 has major texture right in the nose and mouth area and I had to give up.
But I do like her.

No 55 is from my head but trying to translate the Modigliani features.
I like her too.

PS.......I don't know why No 53 (below) looks like she has been eating Oreo cookies.
I'm hungry.

The problem is I usually remember where they are.

Blogging Break

I'm not one to announce blog breaks.

They usually just happen.

So, today I'm letting you know that I need a little space and will probably be a bit scarce around here.

Not too long though.

In the meantime, here is a little tease on something I'm working on.

Don't go away, I'll be right back.
